Aims and Objectives

Overall Aim of the Project

To evaluate PAPI - Point of Access to Providers of Information, developed by the Spanish National Research Network (RedIRIS), from a technical, management and user perspective, as a potential solution for managing authorised access to electronic library resources for both on and off-campus learners, researchers and staff of the UK Further and Higher Education Community.

This project will recommend whether PAPI, could be potentially used as a fine-grain authorisation component within the overall Access Management solution necessary to realise the vision of the JISC Information Environment.

Objectives

  • To manage the project and ensure that it delivers within time and budget.
  • To evaluate the ease of deploying PAPI within a UK University setting, from a technical and management perspective.
  • To monitor the feedback from on and off Campus University of London learners, researchers and staff about the use of PAPI in providing access to electronic library resources.
  • To provide a detailed evaluation report of the technical, management and user issues of using PAPI including recommendations as to whether it could be potentially used as a fine-grain authorisation component within the overall Access Management solution necessary to realise the vision of the JISC Information Environment.
  • To disseminate the outcomes and findings of the project throughout the project cycle in accordance with the JISC PR Strategy and Guidelines. This would also include dialogue and interchange of knowledge, experience and ideas with other relevant projects and initiatives both within the UK and beyond.
